The introduction of 5th Generation aircraft is changing military aviation. These systems bring the advent of networked aircraft, capable of sharing sensors, weapons, and communications. These dramatic changes are keenly felt in the flight training of organizations preparing aircrews to operate these new jets. The cost of operating these expensive systems threatens to greatly increase training costs. The advanced tactics they enable require sophisticated training and rehearsal systems.

Mr. Hanks is Vice President for Performance Optimization at Lone Star Analysis.

He is in a unique position to know. A graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy, Hanks entered Air Force Flight Training, and flew the T-38 (now schedule to be replaced by the T-X). Hanks later returned to the Academy as an instructor.
