CHIEF SCIENTIST

DR. RANDAL ALLEN

Dr. Randal Allen is the Chief Scientist and Director of Advanced Research and Development for Lone Star Aerospace. He is responsible for the growth of the intellectual property portfolio, including over 60 patents and trademarks. Current research includes stochastic optimization and explainable AI machine teaching/learning architectures for unsupervised, supervised, reinforcement learning, and natural language processing. He also has in-depth experience and certifications with rockets, satellites, and tactical missile systems. Within aerospace, his areas of expertise are 3DOF/6DOF modeling and simulation (M&S); guidance, navigation, and control (GNC); embedded systems hardware/software integration, and hypersonic weapon systems.

As an Associate Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), Dr. Randal Allen has published and presented at conferences, served on technical committees (technical co-chair and panelist), reviewed journal articles, and served as President of the AIAA Central Florida Section. He is a Certified Modeling and Simulation Professional (CMSP) with the National Training and Simulation Association. Dr. Allen has served on subcommittees and authored publications and presentations for I/ITSEC. He is a co-author of the textbook, “Simulation of Dynamic Systems with MATLAB and Simulink.” Certified in the Lifecycle Modeling Language (LML) as the basis for Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), he is currently serving on the Board of Directors for the Lifecycle Modeling Organization (LMO).

Dr. Allen received an A.S. from Harper College, a B.S. in Engineering Physics and an M.S. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Illinois (Urbana-Champaign), an Engineer’s Degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering from Stanford University, and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Central Florida (UCF). Since 2006, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at UCF in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department. Dr. Allen has taught undergraduate and graduate courses and is currently the Faculty Advisor for designing/building lunar CubeSats for NASA/KSC.
