What Is “Bayesian” These Days?
2013 marks the 250th anniversary of the Royal Society’s receipt and publication of work by Thomas Bayes. His work forever changed probabilistic reasoning; nearly all probabilistic modeling and research is Bayesian now. It’s the foundation of a good deal of Lone Star’s work. But few people understand it. Those who do know of it generally have only a limited grasp of Bayesian applications and usage. This paper provides a survey of Bayesian applications and a basic tutorial on Bayes and his work.
