Lone Star Celebrates the Season through Giving Back
Lone Star has always looked at the holiday season as a time for giving back. The employees have participated in many ways to make the season a little better for others who may be less fortunate.
Steve Roemerman, Lone Star’s CEO is a board member for the Dallas Metro Dream Center. The Dream Center’s staff and volunteers are making a difference in Dallas’s impoverished areas. Every day they strive to bring positive change in the lives of families all over the city. They are working on collecting donations for their Christmas food giveaway and are in need of canned goods. As usual, Lone Star employees thought they could help and they began bringing canned goods for the organization’s needs.
The annual Lone Star Christmas Party, featured casino gambling with winnings used for a silent auction for the benefit of the Warrior and Family Support Center in San Antonio Texas. The Warrior and Family Support Center (WFSC) provides coordinated services to patients, next-of-kin and extended Family Members with a primary focus on Wounded Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom Warriors. It provides a friendly, comfortable environment in which to take a break, watch a movie on big-screen TVs, play video games, check email or use the Internet, select a book or magazine to read, make a phone call, or just grab a cup of coffee. The auction raised $1500.
Lone Star employees have also taken it upon themselves during this season. Tracy Barkhimer, Lone Star’s Director, Navy & Marine Corps Programs in California, Maryland, participated in the St Mary’s Sherriff’s Office 2015 St Mary’s Splash Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics Maryland – a fundraising event in which participants pledge their dollars for the privilege to “Take to the Waters” of the Chesapeake Bay in support of almost 10,000 athletes around Maryland.
